The Great Plains, home to most of America’s farmers, were impacted greatly by droughts and dust storms, otherwise known as the Dust Bowl. Droughts gradually killed farmers’ crops and dust storms destroyed everything in their paths. Without crops, many farmers who were already in debt by paying for expensive machinery with loans became bankrupt and had their farms taken away. Without a job or a place to live, many farmers became migrant workers.
